MUM Review: The tally of students enrolled at the University stood at 945 as of the beginning of September, a figure that includes 366 in Fairfield, 441 in U.S. distance education, and 138 in China.
The students enrolled in distance education have completed 6-10 months on campus in the University's accounting or computer science master's programs and are now continuing their academic study while working in paid practicum positions in companies nationwide. The students in China are enrolled in Maharishi University of Management courses taught on-site in China at the University's partner institution, Overseas Chinese College of the Capital University of Economics and Business. There are 749 international students enrolled, with 581 of those being graduate students. There are 196 U.S. students, with 158 being undergraduate and 38 being graduate students. The University welcomed 79 new undergraduate students this fall, compared to 63 in 2006, 51 in 2005, and 45 in 2004, showing a significant upward trend. A large majority of new undergraduate students now come from outside of Fairfield. According to Registrar Tom Rowe, this is because the children of the baby-boom generation families that had moved to Fairfield are now beyond college age. As that number of potential students has declined, the number of those who haven't yet learned the Transcendental Meditation technique but who want to enroll has significantly increased.
