Is the following error "Sorry and error occurred while retrieving data [0]" on the overview page where draft and pending items get shown?

As for site tree not loading, make sure that the timeout is set long enough for all the security caching to occur on the first run through. I believe the appropriate file is in /core/admin/overview/ ... something...
