But, in general terms, these are my thoughts:
Each web hosting company has their own ways to manage users sites and accounts. The main idea here is to keep everything standard and uniform, so that it's easy to upgrade, backup and restore. That's why many of them do not allow any custom modification of virtual site settings. When there are dozens or hundreds of sites on one server, this makes a lot of sense.
Another issue is disk and traffic monitoring. If you point the domain name to a directory outside the users account, there may be issues with accounting. The users's files must be in their home directory in order to keep track of the disk usage. FarCry setup makes it somewhat difficult (but there are ways around!)
One feature we'd like to see in FarCry install is that it would check if the /farcry CF mapping already exists. This would mean that if some user uploads the whole code base to their account and tries to run the installer from their own site, it won't break the existing mapping and other FarCry sites on this server.
Once the above obstacles are overcome, FarCry is a great application to manage. I love the fact that it has only one code base for multiple sites. It makes it easy to backup / update / patch. We setup each FarCry site manually, and then it can be managed just like any other site with FTP and control panel.
We use Windows 2003 server with mySQL, (with MS SQL option coming in July). We also have PostgreSQL available, but waiting for when the installer supports it.
Well.. It's about as far as I can go.

Would it be possible to put something up on the list regarding any "issues" you had with setting up shared FarCry?
Maybe compare it against the "best practice" email I sent earlier (in terms of /farcry mapping, patching the install/update scripts, managing apps.cfm, etc. etc.).
While I can appreciate Fast Hit wanting more FarCry customers, in some cases it's not going to be viable for people to switch hosting companies and they may want to get their existing hosting company to setup FarCry.
Also, it would be good to hear from a "Host" point of view regarding what they would want to control in a shared FarCry environment. As well as an opinion regarding a "generic" tool for hosting companies to install FarCry (given how many different webserver/OS combinations may need to be catered for).
