it's probably larger, because it will wait a few seconds (~2) 
for F8 or F5 to be pressed.
change this by
   SYS CONFIG a:kernel.sys SKIPCONFIGSECONDS=0

whats the time for
      c: no keyboard, but floppy
      d: no floppy, but keyboard

if it's the floppy, it's probably the 'is there something in A:'
question, that behaves strange (inside the BIOS)
