I have not had a chance to try the new kernel yet.

The answer to your obvious question:  (I had to run some more tests to 
answer it accurately)

Disconnecting the keyboard causes a 2 sec. delay in BIOS bootup.
This is even when keyboard is disabled in BIOS, apparently a BIOS bug?
(I would have said IMHO, but I didn't want to cause any further 
confusion on this list)

Disconnecting the floppy causes a 4 sec. delay in freedos kernel 
loading.  Floppy is disabled in BIOS.  I do not think the BIOS is faulty 
here, because if I Enable the floppy in BIOS, but disconnect the 
adapter, BIOS Does give me an error message.
