Corporations in this usage are "Apple", "Coca Cola" "HarperCollins" or
"Nike". /Major/ national or multi-national, even medium and large
corporations have established channels. New projects will leverage
those channels in order to spread the cost of maintaining those
channels.

It is the small companies, limited partnerships, even individuals, who
do not have the funding available but do have an idea. Yes, they may
already have products on the market (Frontier), but they run on razor
thin margins. Even if they make a profit on the lines they have
already, they may not have the additional liquidity that would be
needed to spin up an entirely new line, or are leveraged (ie, debt)
such that the risk on new debt would make it not financially viable or
realistic. This is where a "corporation" use of kickstarter is
viable.

except I said that I /would not turn this into a lecture on kickstarter/*.
