[+1] +1 Agree to a zip-file approach for Felix release.

100% agree

Above all, OSGi is a platform/framework for delivering solutions and applications. Installers and packages, necessary as they are, are always to some degree "application specific". Hence, a "standard installer" is a long way less important for the framework - whether provided or not, individual App providers can always add this for their applications if needed. We do, for example. And we don't demand any installer approach or Arch. from the framework project.

As a company, we realized the value of a really good open source platform (Oscar), and also that we had to take time to package it as needed for our use - for us, the quality of the platform is way more important than installers, we know that our customers want a specific installer that for now we will always have to create. I look forward to the time a generic installer is possible, and as a company we will sponsor and participate and engage in this process to the fullest extent.

In the meantime, we don't believer any "installer" issues should be a barrier to a useful and productive Felix release

In order to make progress on a public Felix release, I propose that we use a simple "zip-file" release approach as opposed to an installer-based approach. Please vote on your preference.
