I've heard that can happen. I did though run across this paper:

Which mentions getting good results with memoization. I was hoping

Oh I know, when I get free time I just poke at it to play around with
my more esoteric ideas, like type inferrence :) I'll probably
eventually merge my ideas back into felix proper.
