Appearances matter. At least my brain is strong on visual pattern matching. I once almost got fired because as a contractor working on some C++. I spent the first day editing every single file to remove gratuitous blank lines. The code was so spaced out I couldn't get enough on the screen to see the patterns. I don't want to write documents on every dang library file, there are too many.
