Animal control is all but non-existent here.  There are a lot of advantages to living outside of city jurisdiction but this is not one of them.

Mama Kitty seems to be doing well tonight.  That is a small miracle considering what I witnessed yesterday with that horrible dog.  She's inside for the most part and I've written some people in town to see who is the person to call about converting my porch to a screened in affair.  It just wouldn't be right to deprive her of her fresh air and sunshine.

No sign of life at that neighbor's house.  I think my intuition was correct about unhappy things going on at that house.

I emailed my vet tech--who - though she is rather harsh and straightforward sometimes - has my complete trust.  Consulted with her about what to look for in the injury department and about local contractors for making modifications to this house for Mama Kitty.  I just can't see putting Mama through the stress of a vet visit if I cannot point to specific symptoms.

There is a lot to be said for Feliway spray.  I found some online for $16.99 and it is a little spray bottle of wonders.  With eight cats I am no stranger to sibling rivalry and "hierarchical bantering" (and I say that euphemistically...)...so the Feliway has been a Godsend.  There were no incidents while I was away today...no accidents..no inappropriate marking or shredding.

I don't have any problem standing my ground with the neighbor...but timing is everything and I think I will watch and wait for the right opportunity now that things are calm.

Call animal control, your cat was bitten, if you saw the dog's mouth on her. They will take the dog, and quarantine it for rabies. That should make the neighbor's think twice about letting their dog run loose! Hell, tell them the dog snapped at YOU, if no one saw to deny it, who's gonna know otherwise?
