Prednisone dosages vary, but should not exceed 2 mg/lb/day, and that only for severe conditions.  Lucy is right now on 12.5 mg/day.  She weighs 8 pounds.  For severe IBD, recommended starting dosage is 1-2 mg/lb/day, so Lucy right now is right in the middle of that dosage (1.5 mg/lb/day).  She has been as low as 1.25 mg every 3 days in the past, but has been having a lot of problems lately and so is back up to her highest dose.

So are you saying she would get more prednisolone than the pred she is getting? Are you sure?

Oh good..

The typical dosage for prednisolone is

Dose: 2-4mg/kg/day given by mouth, sliding dose every 10-14 days, until optimal dose for that cat is found.

And I was giving Naomi 1.25 mg (1/4 tables of 5 mg) of predisone and she weighed only 4 lb..so,, according to this calculation, she would have needed more mg of prednisolone, but I think my vet was being very conservative – how much of predisone do you give to Lucy now?
