The way I have dealt with the fear of loss thing, in the past, is to tell myself that when they are gone, all I will want is the chance to hold them and pet them and smell them and talk to them again, and will feel like I would give anything for 5 minutes of it. And look! they are still here, and I can do all that right now, and I don't want to waste it by worrying about the future. it does not take away the anxiety, but it does intensify the joy, and helps me to stay more in the moment with them.
