You could learn to reupholster furniture and then when one cover was shredded, 
make a new one.  That is what I am in the process of doing with a rocking chair 
that Homey shredded.  I have the frame stripped and am working on taking the 
tape/braid off so I can remove the fabric.  The tape is glued on and have to 
use an iron to melt the glue to get it off.  Good winter project!  In the 
mantime, if people do not like my shredded furniture, they can stay away so 
they won't have to get upset.  I agree with you, I like my cats more than the 
stuff.
