Hi Rebecca,

I know how overwhelmed you feel right now. This happened to me. My positive had been living with 11 or 12 of my other cats for several months before I found out. I totally freaked out, especially since she was a 'foster' that I never intended to keep. Some of my other guys were fosters too. Since I was unable to find a new home for her I kept her.(and the other 3 fosters who had been exposed) She lived 5 years and none of my others have ever tested positive. I have even brought in another positive since that time. Still, none of my negatives have 'caught' felv at this point.

It's a risk. There are different points of view on this on the list. My opinion is if she's already 'part' of your family and you don't want to part with her.... don't. In my own experience it hasn't been a problem, and there are others on this list who mix as well, but I do know it's a risk I'm taking.

If you find a wonderful home for her, then great! But as I'm sure you gather they're not that easy to place. (But then again with thousands of healthy cats put down everyday.... they're all hard to place as far as that goes.... It can be done.)

Good luck and welcome.

Hi everyone,
A cat I rescued about 6 months ago and was tested then, negative at that time and now she is Felv positive. The real downer in all of it is that I really was uninformed about it or I would have had her retested before putting her with my other cat. I took the other cat in and so far she is still negative, Keeping my fingers crossed she stays that way.
Being I dont really have a means to keep them seperate except keeping the positive one in a cat cage which she is in for now. If anyone knows of anyone who will take a positive kitty, She is a year old, short hair brown tabby with white. has to be one of the sweetest cats in the world, Loves to be held  even can hold her upside down like a baby. Im just sick about this. She isnt showing any kind of symptoms. happen to have a customer mentio! n to me I should get them retested. <sigh> Im in Wa state near Seattle area. Ill keep her if I cant find the right home for her. It is just I would love for her to be able to have free run of a house etc. She loves people, dogs, other cats etc. Being I have mostly been a dog person most of my life with an occassional cat. I really wasnt educated on this. I am learning fast however. Would also like to learn more about this terrible disease. I think I am still kind of in shock as I only found out yesterday. Any help would be appre! ciated.
