Virbac is indeed the company that makes Recombinant Feline Interferon.  The quote, (I still don't know where this quote was taken from) is talking about "recombinant feline leukemia vaccine".  Recombinant means "produced by genetic engineering", on a DNA level.  Recombinant Feline Interferon Omega, is genetically produced from feline DNA, rather than from human DNA (interferon A).  It appears that Virbac is now making vaccines for preventing FelV in the same way they are generating the interferon.  I don't know enough about what the process of developing vaccines involves to tell you how they produced the vaccines before this.  There is a ton of stuff on the Internet about the FelV vaccines; the dangers and effectiveness, but when I was doing my research on the disease I kind of skimmed over it.  My concern, of course, was focused on treatment and cure.

"Headquartered in Nice, Virbac manufactures and markets pharmaceuticals for animals worldwide -- the fifth largest supplier in the world of such products for small animals. As part of its operations, Virbac is developing Leucogen, a recombinant feline leukemia vaccine that is already being marketed in Europe, USA and Japan."

Why would a vaccine be made of feline interferon? It says it is feline interferon...

The quote is talking about a recombinant vaccine, which of course seems like it would be safer.  When I first read the quote, I got so excited.  I thought I read that there was an approved version of feline interferon.  I'm seeing what I want to see, I guess.  It's still good news, thanks for sharing it.  I'll look into it for vaccinating my negatives.
