Although fall is still theoretically a few weeks away, trees are already
starting to change here, and the temperatures struggled to get up to 60
some days during a recent rainy stage. It has definitely been a cool
summer on the whole--which suits me, but not my tomatoes and green
peppers and eggplants! Fortunately, beans and summer squashes, after a
slow start, are not at all phazed by cool weather.

I finally finished the lace circular shawl, crawling my way round the
edging--garter stitch with 16 rows, repeated about 75 times. I need to
block it and fix a little mistake near the center--looks like a dropped
stitch but isn't, can't quite figure it out yet.

I started a pi-are-square shawl in a subtle off-white with flowing bits
of bright colors yarn from Debbie McDermott. Just garter stitch this
time :)

I keep thinking a sweater for myself would be awfully nice, but haven't
gotten a plan clear in my head yet. I transferred the rest of our
Shetland roving to smaller, sturdier boxes, and realized I had quite a
bit more than I thought. LOTS for a sweater! I really prefer a 3-ply
yarn, but this roving doesn't easily spin finer than maybe 30 wpi, so a
3-ply would be too heavy, I want more like a sport weight yarn for my
sweater. So 2-ply it is.

And I'm going to do some dyeing today for sock roving. We finally have
some sunshine again, but it's not too warm for dyeing on the stove.

Other than that, haven't had much time for fiber this summer. Now that
it feels so much like fall, though, and the weeds are somewhat conquered
in the garden, I expect the fiber will flow through my fingers again :)
