Had Israel annexed the territories....it would be a different story. Of course that would have been impossible - because it would have meant giving all the Palestinians the vote..... yeah, right. Israel has occupied... not owned the territories it conquered. Conquered lands must be turned back to the people who inhabited it. That is INTERNATIONAL LAW to which Israel is a signatory.
Let's not whitewash Israel's faults. The settlers, claiming that God gave them the right to all of 'greater Israel' have displaced millions of people. They have all the rights of citizens of Israel while Palestinians are humiliated, denied travel rights even within the territories, and have their homes and land taken at will and have no rights to the waters of the Jordan... a MAJOR point here. Remember. that when a Palestinian child dies as a result of rocket attacks by Israel on 'militants' - it is collateral damage. When an Israeli child is killed, he or she is the victim of a terrorist. Twice as many Palestinian children have been killed since the Sharon-instigated Intifada than Israeli children. Bloodshed is bloodshed. Both sides suffer. Palestinian mothers grieve the same way Israeli mothers do.... Reggie, hi. I lived in Israel on two different occasions. On the first, I made Aliyah. I got homesick for my entire family and returned here. Then I missed Israel and moved over there a second time. This second time, I became friends with a neighbor, a woman who lost her arm when a package blew up a bus she was riding. She went on to marry and have kids, but her life was never the same. She was one of the survivors of that explosion. We all bleed red. However, that's NOT the point I wanted to make. The point I want to make is that prior to 1947, the managers, owners, and directors of Israel were not the Jews, and not the Arabs. It was the British. That's something many wish to forget. Prior to that, there had been migrations of Arabs and Jews at different points in time. But the owners (call them mandators if you wish) of Israel in 1947, were the British. Prior to that, there had been the Ottoman Empire, prior to that, there had been nomads, the Jews had been the owners for a great deal of time (archeological digs prove it), etc. But the owners, if anyone could've been called owner of Israel, in 1947, were the British. The British opted to terminate their mandate by 1948, and asked the UN to partition the land between Jews and Arabs. If you look at the map of that division, you can clearly see it favors the Arabs. The Jews agreed wholeheartedly. The Arabs rejected it. They wanted the whole pie. They wanted the Jews gone or dead. They threw the offer in the toilet, in lieu of WAR, which they declared upon Israel. They asked other Arab nations to use their military f orce to kill off the Israeli Jews, and these nations did attack Israel. The Jews of Israel knew that from that moment on, they'd have to defend themselves or die. The rest is history. From 1948 to the present the Arabs have said no to any attempt to have peace. ----- / o o \ ====OO=====OO========================= Hank Roth's Place - http://pnews.org/ [EMAIL PROTECTED] (on the InterNUT since 1982) ============================================ Fightback - notification news and views list Subscribe/Unsub at: http://pnews.org/dada/ ================================================ Fightback - (pnews "progressive news and views") OPEN discussion - subscribe or unsubscribe in subject line: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ================================================
