That's because it's the raw unadjusted data.

You'd need to ask Ed about that.  I hadn't intended to imply that
the raw scan was useful for anything other than avoiding rescanning
the same film frame and archiving the raw data.  That way as the
crop quality in Vuescan improves, you can recrop the original data
without digging up the film again.

The raw data won't have *any* colour adjustments, so it's bound to
look ugly and be difficult to adjust - especially if it's a scan
of a colour neg.
