We've found it very difficult to remove the digital watermark. You just
about have to destroy the visual appeal of the image to do it. It is
distributed all over the image, so cropping it does not remove the
watermark.

No visible deterrent isn't necessarily a lack of deterrent. If you see a
sign that says radar may catch you speeding but you can't see the radar gun,
that still might make you slow down. Advertising that your photos are
digitally watermarked may put the fear of God in would-be thieves.
