There do seem to have been a few.

FWIW I've had no problems with my Pol4000 since new (~1yr and - at a guess - around 
1000 
scans).

Website Mk2 includes a user feedback section form to collect and collate info
about software/hardware failures, mfr response etc. Eventually this might identify 
patterns.
