I'm sure you will get lots of different answers to this. Personally, for maximum portability, I'd export the musical examples as 600 dpi (or 1200, if you prefer) TIFFs rather than EPS. Finale requires a PS printer driver in order to create EPS, and if the grad student or someone wants to print out a good-quality proof, they'll need a PS printer as well. TIFF will give you somewhat larger file sizes, but they can easily be imported into MS Word or any DTP program, they can be resized, and they don't need a PS printer to print well. They can also be edited and cropped with any image editing program, whereas I think EPS will require something like Illustrator.
