Though hesitant earlier, I now agree with David. Though TIFFs are fine for more ordinary graphics, musical examples are a different breed. They should be close to one size but still minutely adjustable for the text flow. They must be positioned close to the text they illustrate. They are in fact *text* examples in a different language, and so should behave with a similar malleability to printed text. Fixed images don't have this character. Ideally, even EPS or PDF should be replaced by a text editor plugin that allows adjustment of the musical example to better fit the layout -- nudge a millimeter here, a millimeter there, until the example is in harmony with the surrounding text.
