Not being much of a programmer, isn't OLE designed to do just this very 
thing?  Making the parts linked to the score via OLE (or a similar 
programming procedure) would be a possible solution, wouldn't it?  Or is 
OLE dead and buried as un-implementable in any working situation?

I know that WordPerfect allows such linking with the graphics files -- I 
can embed the graphic in the document so that even if I change the 
original, that original will always appear the same in my WordPerfect 
file.  OR I can choose to leave the graphic on disk and include only the 
link, so that I can edit the graphic and the edited version shows up the 
next time I open or print that WP document.

Surely a similar approach would be possible with Finale?  Of course the 
ability to do so doen't imply that I think it would be easy, and I am 
not sure that is where I want my development dollars spent, but I would 
think it would certainly be possible.
