Andrew, I just went back and tried this in Finale 2000b and 2001d with exactly the same results. I started with a measure of 4/4 time, entered 3 quarter notes and then a whole note. The Too Many Notes dialog box came up and hitting either Cancel or Cmd-period took me right back to the same measure, cursor in the same place.
As I said, I'm on a G4 with OS 9.2.1 and I don't ever remember it behaving any other way. YMMV. *************************** J.D.
