For starters, try using the spacebar (asc#32) as your blank notehead (because
this IS a blank chatacter as opposed to a blank slot in a font). I suspect
TGTools did just what you instructed it to do.

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately it doesn't work. The pdf file still shows flags. Tobias suggested using 32, and indeed that did the trick.
