You will probably encounter a "number of open files exceeded" error. Pre-OS9 versions have a small limit on the number of open files (ca. 300), and Finale is a major file opening hog. The problem with VM is that it doubles or more the number of open files.
If you must run with VM, remove all unneeded fonts, font annotation files, and esp. plugins. Unfortunately, this still may not be enough to allow you to run successfully. Even more unfortunate is that there is a different VM/Finale problem when running OS9.2.2, so either way VM has gotchas.
