Dear listers,
I have an adult student who is using Encore (urg) and it has taken me
two years to convince him that he should get Finale and learn how to
use it. I have to take his music, import it into Finale, do all the
mundane tasks of removing floating elements like lyrics and slurs,
get rid of all his ties (it's like picking out a long seam, with no
tools, one stitch at a time). Anyway, I finally convinced him to buy
Finale, and learn to use it.
But after a few lame tries, he has gone back to Encore, I've gone
back to seam ripping, and I've had to listen to his list of two
thousand reasons he hates Finale.
Here's one serious one: We are using the same version on similar
machines (Finale 2002b on Macs, mine a G4, his a G3). I have none of
these problems, but he is using these as important reasons why
"Finale is a bad, bad program and I hate it."
1. Every time he opens a new file or opens one I've given him, it
makes an automatic backup. I think I had to uncheck "make automatic
backups when saving" button once, and all my new or imported files
open without that annoying make-a-copy thing. I showed him how to
uncheck it and he did, but every new files restores it.
2. Every time he starts up Finale, it opens the hinys and "register
now" dialogs, even though he has checked it not to show up, and IS
registered.
These don't seem important enough reasons to NOT use Finale, but I
need all annoyances removed so that I can give up the Encore seam
ripping job. As I said, I only dealt with these things once, and now
they never show up on my computer.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Linda
