I was going to post this as a question, but then found a solution. I had not used this feature before and perhaps others would like to hear of it:
I had a score on which I had run the indispensable Patterson Beams plugin and then made further beam adjustments. I then had to use this score for another purpose (convert to tablature) and needed to reverse all of the adjustments. I found that in the MassEdit menu, Copy Entry Items... allows you to copy everything EXCEPT beam and stem alterations. I copied the staff to a new one and all beams reverted to their defaults. (Note that for some reason this does not seem to work copying to a clip file and pasting back into the original, but cleared, staff.)
