To make that method work, I believe you want to type a non-breaking hyphen
followed by a regular hyphen. I'm not sure how to access that character,
though. For the Mac it doesn't exist at all.

Instead, I use a text expression for this sort of thing.  In my template I
have one which is hyphens separated by multiple spaces, sized to exactly
match the hyphen spacing Finale creates in my lyrics. (Somewhere in the
Lyric Options is a place where you can set the distance between hyphens.)

If I need a longer or shorter row of hyphens, I duplicate the expression
and then either copy-and-paste to add hyphens or delete to subtract them.
Setting the H and V placement of the expression lets me place it
consistently.

I imagine you could accomplish something similar with a custom line, but I
persist with the text expression because that's what I'm used to.
