Bartok's music is still protected by copyright so you would be breaking copyright law by posting it without obtaining written permission and paying whatever royalty the copyright holder wanted to charge you -- there hasn't been any clearcut legal decision on whether posting music is a performance or a mechanical copy. And with an potential audience of millions, either royalty will be prohibitively expensive for an individual to post a single file. If it's a performance, each time another person listens, it's a new performance, since the likelihood of two people listening at precisely the same instance is pretty slim. And if it's a mechanical copy, each time the file reaches a different computer, it's a new copy.

Hello everyone.

I want to create an mp3 file of the Bartok piano piece

Andante
from Harom rondo nepi dallamokkai Sz84

I would like to put the mp3 file up at my mp3.com.au site.

Am I legally able to do this or is there copyright/performance rights
restrictions?

Many thanks for your assistance.
