And many of them just as spurious as ever! I'm no great Sibelius apologist, but in the interests of not perpetuating misinformed and out-dated problems as "fact", I would at least urge people to realise that the observations Mr. Smith posts here are only applicable to pre-v2 versions of Sibelius, and a great many of them have been solved since then.
Really? I have had 2.1 for sometime now and I think it would be more accurate to say "a few of them" rather than "many". Added to which they moved a whole load of key stokes around which really confused the situation.
Actually, the list was drawn up in response to a comparison somebody made between 2.1 to Finale 2000. Hardly fair I thought, so the list I outlined was between 1.4 and 2000, still not even ground for Finale but it does raise a few eyebrows.
Yeah, Sibelius has bugs in it, but so does Finale,
These are not bugs, they are either things Sibelius can't do well or have been badly thought out. There were never any "fixes" for them, apart from buying v2.1.
and I'm afraid this whole "my engraving program is better than your engraving program" debate just sets my teeth on edge.
But these are *both* my engraving programs, I use them side by side, day by day and on very similar projects, sometimes identical work - that is why it is interesting to compare. And after all it was this thread that introduced the subject in the first place, I'm only responding to others on the list.
Can't we all just use the tool that we prefer to get the job done?Yes we can, and do, but there are many on this list who ask from time to time about the pros and cons between the 2 programs; some have to choose between them and some are required to invest a fair amount of time and money in that decision. If there is anything that I can do to outline the qualities or problems between them both then I shall.
Regards,
Jonathan Smith
