Christopher Saith:

"If Coda could supply more usable default files to start with..."

I use Finale daily, literally, for a huge variety of project, my own and others'. I have, for some years now, made my own templates, sometimes beginning with a standard Finale template, sometimes with the setup Wizard, and sometimes just from scratch... often by saving a file (one that is already set up and that works really well for some configuration) as a template. So I have a whole folder of "My Templates": "LW full orch", "LW chamber orch" "LW piano/vocal solo/chorus" etc. This way I get everything the way I like it, and playback is all set up. The list gets added to all the time, and updated in each new version of Finale as I use them. I never use the "default files" without messing around with them a bit, and I always get just the configuration I like...

I don't expect Finale to read my mind, so I'm happy with the default files as they come. I'm not going to use them for anything but a jumping off place anyhow. I don't know how anyone can expect to find "their" perfect template for anything, since everyone has their own, sometimes quirky, way of working.
