I am afraid the platform info wouldn't have helped you in this case. The
smart shape metatools were introduced in a version after 2000.

Even if we would all stick to your recommendation, I think it would be fair
to assume that anything that isn't labeled applies to the latest version of
Finale on both platforms, which in this case it did.

Furthermore, hardly anyone will remember when certain features, especially
rather minor things like the one mentioned were introduced, so labeling
something "WinFin 2001" may even lead people into wrong assumptions. In
certain cases it even happens that features in Fin2000 have changed
dramatically in 2002, so the instructions are no longer valid in future
versions.

Not that I am opposed to what you are suggesting, just pointing out that it
would have been of no help to you.

It is in fact almost a certainty that the majority of posts refer to the
latest version of Finale, and it is simply short-sighted to assume that they
work in 2000. Version 2000 was released in 1999, which is now four years
ago.
