For some people, hyphenation which follows pronunciation and rhythm works fine, whether or not it goes contrary to dictionary hyphenation. For other people, any hyphenation in the wrong place indicates ignorance.
In either event, somebody's gonna complain. If you want to do it by hand, fine. If you have a ton of lyrics it can be a royal pain in the butt. And inevitably (oops, in- ev- it- a- bly) you will type a word and forget to hyphenate it and not notice it until you click-assign and then you have to change things.
So a plug-in to do it for us would make life a lot easier. And of course you could still do it by hand if you choose to, to ensure that the hyphenation (hy- phen- a- tion or is it hyph- en- a- tion) is exactly as you wish.

Just wondering if anyone knew of any websites or whatnot that would automatically hyphenate English words? Might make transcribing lyrics easier -- just type them in straight, submit them for hyphenation, then copy them into Finale. Or can this be done with a word processor? "Hyphenate all syllables?"

I copy my written lyrics onto the lyric box, verse by verse, and click in hyphens where they make sense to the singers and meter of the music. It helps me to get the accents correct, and to get the important consonants connected to the beginning next syllable. Doing it this way insures for me that it will work, or else change the note value, beat number it falls on, etc. until it does. I would not want to do it with a program. Are you wishing for this because you do a lot of copying of old music?
