Well, that assumes that Linux users use Linux because it is cheap. I would contend that Linux users buy Linux because: (a) it is open source, and the "owner" can't go out of business and leave the product as an orphan; (b) it is open source; and the "many eyes" that see the code catch more bugs; (c) it is not Microsoft (FWIW); (d) the user happens to be a Unix geek (like me) and prefers the solid experience of a unix-like based system; (e) well, goshdarnit, it's stable; (f) and about a bazillion other reasons other than price, although price is a factor :-).
If products on Linux were bought soley because of price, then the likes of Oracle would not be producing products for this system. IBM and HP would not be behind it. Right now, Finale is the only reason I'm not a Linux user at home. At work, I have to do what the boss tells me, but my personal choice is for Linux.
