I meant to announce this on Monday, but in my Panther-installing excitement I forgot:
XPostFacto 3.09a is now available -- it allows installation of 10.3 on older Macs, including the Wallstreet PowerBook and the Beige G3.

Installation was very smooth -- I did have to disable the L2 cache on my upgrade card for the installation itself, and then re-enable it afterwards, but other than that, everything went fine. (On the beige G3s, it does require a PCI video card, since the built-in video is not supported, but I imagine most people who are still using beige G3s have added a Radeon or Radeon 7000 by now.)
Panther has been very well-behaved so far on my Beige G3. Raw performance is probably about the same as 10.2, but many interface elements (i.e., drop-down sheets) have been tweaked for extra snappiness, and they make a big difference in the perceived responsiveness of the OS. Mail and Address Book are much improved, too, and the new Finder is great.
No MIDI troubles so far, either.
