Hi guys,

One annoying change in Finale 2004 is that the Message Bar no longer reminds you of the metatool key shortcut for the currently selected Smart Shape. In other words, when you had the Slur Tool selected, the Message Bar used to read: "Double-click and drag to draw a slur. (Default metatool = S)." Now, it just says "Double-click and drag to draw a slur," without the info about the metatool.

Why'd you get rid of this information? It's very useful for newbies, and even experienced users like myself appreciated the reminder for some of the more infrequently-used metatools. Worse, the information on which metatool corresponds to which smart shape appears nowhere within Finale itself -- unlike, say, the Expression and Articulation tools, which list the metatools next to their corresponding expression or articulation, or staff styles, where Finale at least shows you a list of what metatool corresponds to which staff style before you program a new one. Users who want to find out what the Smart Shape metatools are will be obliged to dig through the PDF documentation. Not that reading the manual is a bad thing, mind you, but this information used to be much easier to get at -- it told you right there in the Message Bar. Why the change?

(If it's just a matter of the Message Bar conveying misleading info to someone who's actually changed the default metatools for their smart shapes, couldn't the message bar then tell you what the *current* metatool is for the currently selected smart shape?)

Regards,

- Darcy
