I am running Finale 2003 on my new Mac Powerbook laptop. I had to use this workaround to be able to print on my HP Laserjet 2200dn laser printer (otherwise I would get an postscript error message from the Printer Utility).

HOWEVER...my HP printer is capable of double sided printing, and before I upgraded to my new laptop, I was able to double side print a Finale file automatically without any problem just by going into one of the options in the "Print" menu...for some reason, with the AdobePS driver, which does allow me to print, when I go into "Print", then to the "Layout" button, and then click on "double sided printing", I have to manually flip the paper over in order to get double sided printing. I am no longer able to get my HP Laserjet 2200 to automatically double side Finale...any suggestions or fixes for this? I really want to be able to automatically print double side like I used to on my Mac G3 in OS 8/9.

Please help!!!!

Starting in the recent OS 10.2.4 update, Apple has dropped support for
some printing functions. As a result, you might experience problems
printing from our products, receiving "PostScript" and "FinaleDict"
error messages. These problems can only be fully addressed in a new
version of our software to keep up with the new changes in Apple's
operating system.

If you have 10.2.4, 10.2.5, or 10.2.6 and experience such problems when
printing, installing the AdobePS driver could be a workaround. In order
to make it work in house, we had to follow these steps:

0. Make sure that OS 9 drivers for your printer are installed. They are
necessary for printing in OS X Classic.
1. Go to the PRINT CENTER in OS X (Applications >> Utilities >> Print
Center)
2. Delete your Printer
3. Download the "PostScript Printer Driver AdobePS" (English) from:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=44&platform=M
acintosh
Once downloaded, double click on the installer and restart as
recommended.
4. Launch Classic
5. Go to the Apple menu (Classic) >> Chooser: the AdobePS printer icon
should be showing. 6. Highlight the AdobePS printer icon with one click and choose your
printer model/name on the right.
Close the Chooser.
7. Launch our product, go to the File menu >> Page Setup, and make sure
that your printer is selected.
8. Go to the File menu >> Print: if you followed the steps correctly,
there should be a red "Adobe" icon in the window indicating that you are
using their PS driver. Print your file.

Subject: Re: F2003a won't print to acrobat

i haven't solved the problem yet, but have narrowed the scope down a bit. macfin2k3a printing to acrobat v.5, G4/400 OS 9.2.2/384 RAM, finale accorded 75M.

i deleted all fonts installed by finale, as well as any version of them i had floating around in other places on my HD and reinstalled brand new, only the PS fonts, font annotation and AFM files. also reinstalled the application, but i still can't print to acrobat from finale, getting this message:

--

%%[ Error: invalidaccess; OffendingCommand: def ]%%

Stack:
-dict-
/FinaleDict
/Courier

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%% %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

--

have also tried installing TT fonts along with PS, and then removing all PS and having only the TT fonts in the system, neither solved anything.

now, if i change the default font to courier, even while retaining other fonts in the document, i can print to pdf! i can even change all the font settings as i like, so that courier appears nowhere in the score, as long as the default font is still set to courier. this is NOT a workable solution, because changing the default font setting to courier changes all the articulations and dynamics already in the document to courier as well... (printing from other apps is not a problem, with music or text fonts).

really i am starting to think i simply received a wonky version of the programme; in addition to all the other problems, i have had my finale prefs file get corrupted twice in the past two weeks, and had to reconfigure all programme and appearance options... all the computer trouble i have had recently started during an install from the CD.

is it possible that the installation CD or the finale application which it installs is corrupt somehow?
