I fail to see how page turns going back with DS or DC are any more noisy than page turns going forward with written-out repeats.

A 2-page, lays flat on the stand without page turns, but with every 16 bars repeated and a D.C. with repeats which reprises the first page would result in 6 pages of written out repeats.

Are you seriously telling us that the 2-page lays flat with no page turns will make MORE noise from page turns than the 6-page written-out version?

I can think of lots of reasons you might not want to use traditional repeats (folks who can't find the point to go back to because the copyist didn't bother to use wings on the repeats and couldn't figure out how to enlarge the sign for the D.S.) but page turn noise is just as big a culprit going forward as going backward and if you can eliminate the page turns by using repeats, I would think that would be preferable to risking page turn noise by increasing page count.

But I certainly respect Bob Florence's expertise in this because he's been in many more recording sessions than I have.
