I am engraving a choral piece which has some long words (lyrics) and some very short words on the downbeat of various measures. The spacing between the left barline and the first note varies in each measure according to the length of the lyric on the downbeat. Is there some automatic way to have this space be the same in all measures?
I always use note spacing in the Mass Edit Tool. I have "lyrics" checked in my default spacing options. I tried unchecking "lyrics" and it does space the first note evenly throughout, however it causes many other lyric collisions.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

You can use Options/Document Settings/Lyrics to change the alignment of all your syllables to be LEFT which would eliminate that extra space between the barline and the first note.

If you don't want them all left-aligned:

There's a setting in the lyrics tool to center the syllables or left-align or right-align them. If they're centered, there's going to be more space used up to the left of the first note in each measure. If they're left-aligned the syllable won't use up any extra space to the left of the first note.

To adjust individual syllables, once they are in the score, under the Lyrics menu select Adjust Syllable, then click on the note or the syllable you want to adjust. You'll see two handles, one on the syllable and the other on the note to which it is assigned. Click on the handle on the note and the alignment options are now black and selectable, in the Lyrics/Align menu. Choose Left, for each one you want to left align, rather than center. Then respace the music.

You'll end up with more space between the first note and the second note in each measure, but the extra space between the barline and the first note will be gone.
