Actually, listening again, I realize it's even *more* deceptive than that. The last two notes of the first 6/4 measure (beats 5 & 6) are exactly the same as the *first* two notes of the preceding 4/4 bar.

In other words, George has exactly the same figure in the bass three times in a row -- twice in 4/4 (as a two-bar pattern), and then once in 6/4 (with the last two beats at the end of the figure lopped off).

It's very tricky, and very effective.
