Windows machines don't crash much any more, either, not since the end
of the dominance of the Win9x versions of Windows.

I shut my machine down when I'm not using it simply because it's
connected to the Internet 24/7. Yes, I've got a firewall in between
my machine and the Internet, but I don't want to take any chances.

And the issue of leaving Finale open for long periods of time isn't
really a matter of trusting your OS, but a matter of trusting Finale.
There have been times when I've left my PC on 24/7, and in those
cases my local mail server (running in a low-profile mode as an agent
to download my email) was running all that time. It never crashed or
caused any problems.

But Finale is a completely different animal -- I'd never really think
of leaving it open all the time, with a file open in it or not.
That's not a matter of mistrust for Windows at all, because NT-based
Windows can handle it just fine and remain stable indefinitely. But
Finale is not that stable, and I wouldn't trust it at all.

I think you must have misunderstood, because I doubt Karen would have
said that. Paging and temp files are about as far about as you can
get, since one is part of the OS (paging) and the other is
application-specific (temp files).
