I’m so glad someone brought of the clunky way Finale does Instrument
Names during part extraction. I have put up with it and worked around
it since Finale 3a.
After extracting parts, I open the page numeral for page 2ff, and add
the instrument, such as: “Flute 1, pg.” then the #. Finale should
offer us a better choice of solutions for adding instrument names to
multi-page part extractions.
Additionally, I discovered that when my score is set up to print on
8-1/2x14 paper, parts extract to 8-1/2x11 paper with an even-numbered
page number on the left and in the center of the page, while odd-
numbered pages default as right-side headers. Somewhere I must be
missing giving Finale the command to change paper size and numbering.
Instructions in the manual on these topics (changing paper size, page
numbering, part naming) seem poorly written (at least they are
confusing to me, and I am a manual-reader).
