Much of Ross requires an understanding of the context within which he wrote, and I think this is especially true of the A appendix.

I completely agree with you ... and yet I have heard many people represent it as if bold tempo marks is simply the correct thing to do. I checked Ross before posting, but didn't feel it necessary to quote him. As I hope I made clear in my earlier post, my point in the post was not to object to what Ross says, but rather to discuss how some of Ross's suggestions have *become* standards by virtue of so many people choosing to treat them as such.
