This is mostly true. The big exception is for people who, for some reason,
still need to run legacy OS9 applications in "Classic" mode (the new
Intel-based Macs don't run classic applications at all.) This is a very
important consideration that Lawrence should take into consideration
considering that he still hadn't upgraded to OSX before his old Mac clone
died.

I would suggest that he search eBay for a good used vintage 2003 Mac in
working condition. That way he could still boot natively in OS9 when he
needed to, and in the mean time he could figure out which of his
commonly-used applications work or don't work in OSX. Used computers of that
vintage would probably cost far less than would "hiring a computer" until
the Intel-based Mac desktops become available.
