using MS Outlook Web Access.
For some reason unknown to me, attachments are created when I reply to
posts on this list, consisting of a copy of the message to which I am
replying and a copy of some kind of Finale group signature.

Dear Jim, the attachments don't bother me at all ;) However, I noticed your
messages with attachments were sent in multipart format, whereas this one I
am replying to, which has no attachment, was sent in plain text format.
Maybe you've already sorted it out yourself?
