Somebody I know who does vocal scores for Bärenreiter usually uses 10pt Times (fixed size) for the lyrics. He has also used 9pt Times, but I find this too small.

The Recordare style also called for 10pt Times (fixed). That was with 75% staff reduction, ie, 18 points (=1/4 inch) from top staff line to bottom staff line. I prefer 75% reduction for my own work, but I gather that the more common reduction here is 83.3% (ie, 20 pts).

By the way, in reading the responses in this thread, I'm both pleased and surprised to find that the consensus here likes lyrics as large as or even larger than I do. So much of what I see published uses lyrics smaller than mine, so I assumed my preferences were larger than the mainstream.

Then again, it could just be that the regulars on this list have better sense than the publishing industry at large. It wouldn't be the first time.
