Well, I have played there, incidentally with Joshua, but you cannot compare it to the 18th century, as all the wooden wall plating has been ripped out, and it is now overaccoustic while it was probably drier in Bach's time. Performances from the balcony as Bach did them are never particularly convincing today because of the accoustics. Of course, singing 19th century choral music with Today's large Thomas choir does sound beautiful, but that's besides the point.
