Actually, that didn't bother me at all. I was annoyed by the hokey plot, which had nothing to do with music, or how composers work, and that strongly implied that the Sieur de St.-Colombe, because he was (fictionally) morally superior to Marais, was also musically superior--which is hogwash both as an equation and in historical fact.
