It's had surprising legs in non-musical forums, too. And a *very* different reaction than the one found in musical forums. I think I pointed to this already, but Kevin Drum on his blog http://washingtonmonthly.com reacted to it as elitist claptrap, and lots of discussion ensued (all on one line): http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2007_04/011101.ph p It also got front-page mention (with the same anti-elitist slant) on DailyKos.com and Atrios.Blogspot.com, two of the most popular left-of- center political blogs. On the other hand, the music-oriented forums have tended to not seen any elitism in the article (that hasn't been the reaction here, for instance). I wish somebody who is arts-oriented would study the different reactions and try to tease out why there was such a different reaction in those forums -- that would be an interesting sociological study! -- David W.
